Samsung a04s

Introduction: Samsung a04s. Are you looking for a Samsung experience on the cheap? The Galaxy a04s is as low as it gets in Samsung’s lineup. But cheap doesn’t always mean something is good value, so it’s worth taking a closer look at this popular entry-level device.

The Galaxy a04s runs on a low-end Exynos 850 SoC with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card expansion slot. You’re talking about a mid-€100 phone, but you will be surprised to see a display with a high refresh rate. The 6.5-inch IPS display is 90Hz, albeit with a 720 x 1600px resolution.

An entry-level smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy a04s has simple hardware aimed at simple tasks. The phone isn’t particularly standout, but you get good camera performance and reliable battery life in lighting conditions. Samsung’s robust and customizable One UI 4.1 Core is a plus, albeit a toned-down version of the original One UI.

Samsung a04s review

The device ships in a small retail box containing only a user manual and a pin for the SIM card tray. Unfortunately, Samsung didn’t include a charger or a protective case. Nevertheless, you do obtain a USB-C to USB-C cable.

The Galaxy a04s might be running a different version of Android, but it’s a low-cost phone released in September, so expecting Android 13 is unrealistic. And since the a04s is a low-end Samsung device, the custom One UI has been replaced with One UI 4.1 Core. This means that the core One UI features and aesthetics are here, but some advanced features were left out. The design of the phone is quite simple and minimal.

The Galaxy a04s features a plastic unibody design with pleasingly rounded edges for a comfortable grip. The front panel is also scarcely rounded, eliminating any protrusions or gaps. It’s near as if the chassis is made of one piece – you will love it.

However, the plastic surface on the back is a fingerprint magnet and is relatively easy to scratch.

Another good thing about the build is that the plastic is less slippery and the glossy surface of the A04s makes good contact with the skin. It’s less greasy than your average glass sandwich phone. It’s not like Samsung didn’t have any wiggle room with content. Can the Galaxy A04s price target be achieved with a glass or metal build?

Moving to the sides, you will find the power button that doubles as a fingerprint reader, housed in a slight indentation. It’s easily placed within thumb reach, but you must pull a bit to reach the volume rocker that sits just above the power key. At the bottom are the USB-C connector, speaker grill, and 3.5mm audio jack.

The SIM card tray is placed on the left side of the frame near the top left edge of the A40s. It contains two SIM card slots and a dedicated microSD card slot.

On the front, the Galaxy A04s has a 6.5-inch display with a teardrop-shaped notch for the front camera. The side bezels are nicely thin, but the bottom lip is noticeably thicker—Par for the course in this price bracket.

Interestingly, the device is somewhat heavy for a 6.5-inch smartphone with a plastic build. Not that it’s a big problem, but 195 grams usually makes for a bulky device or glass build.

In terms of brightness, the phone didn’t hit the advertised 400 nits mark, but it came close. The display reached 389 nits in Auto and Manual modes in our tests.

Overall, the build quality of the Galaxy A04s is good, and the handling is excellent and easy. It is within its weight, but you must predict premium materials and innovative design in this price range.

The lack of physical proximity and ambient light sensors is an issue. Virtual proximity sensors are infamous for their poor consistency in turning off the screen during calls. Phones that don’t have an ambient light sensor use the front-facing camera to measure lighting conditions. This means it’s less energy efficient, takes too long to react to changes, and is sometimes inaccurate.

After you take the phone out of your pocket, the software takes a few seconds to adjust the brightness if there’s a noticeable difference from the previous ambient light situation where you last used it. You will find yourselves reaching for the brightness slider more often than not. And when you consider the somewhat lower maximum brightness, the overall outdoor experience could be better.

Samsung a04s colors

The Samsung Galaxy a04s has multiple color options Black, Green, White, and Copper. The handset has impressive internal specs, screen size, camera setup, battery timing, and Samsung Galaxy A04s mobile performance. The Samsung Galaxy a04s camera setup includes a 50 MP triple rear camera and a 5 MP selfie camera.

On the other hand, color accuracy is pretty decent, with an average dE2000 of 3.8. Then again, whites and grays appear pretty blue, and there’s no way to adjust the color temperature or change the color mode.

High refresh rate control on the Galaxy a04s is pretty straightforward – an idle screen means 60Hz, and a conversation with it means 90Hz. All the apps we tried ran at 90Hz, including video players and streaming apps. But once you stop playing a video/movie for a few seconds without touching the screen, the screen dials down to 60Hz.

Samsung A04s battery life

The Galaxy A04s runs on the powered Exynos 850 chipset and houses a large 5,000 mAh battery, so battery life is predictably excellent. Screen-on, as well as screen-off test results, are also commendable. You can expect the same overall endurance score as the Galaxy A13, as both handsets sport identical hardware. Either way, the overall endurance rating of 114 hours is an excellent score.

¹Typical value tested under third-party laboratory conditions. A typical value is an approximate average considering deviations in battery capacity across battery samples tested under the IEC 61960 standard. The rated power is 4,900mAh. Actual battery life may vary based on the network environment, usage patterns, and other factors.

The Galaxy A04s doesn’t come bundled with a charger but supports standard 15W charging like the Galaxy A13. Even the charging times are pretty similar, as the Galaxy A04s charges only 28% battery in the first 30 minutes, while a full charge takes 2 hours and 14 minutes.

Samsung a04s 5g

5G could be massively faster than 4G and 3G speeds—with the ability to deliver speeds as fast as Wi-Fi. With speeds up to 20 Gbps, you can download a full 8k movie in seconds, experience technologies like VR, AR, and autonomous driving, and connect more devices than ever. Samsung A04s is a 5g mobile with faster internet speed.

Conclusion: Samsung a04s

At the conclusive analysis, the Samsung a04s has a dual sim with an additional micro SD card slot. It’s an overall good smartphone at a reasonable price. On this mobile, you can enjoy a high-quality camera. The Galaxy A04s has a single bottom-firing speaker and a standard audio setup for devices in this price bracket.

The smaller speaker is a little weak in terms of loudness, as our test scenario gave an “average” score of -30.3 LUFS.In terms of quality, the speaker could be more impressive. Vocals and treble play at high volume while the bass is non-existent, and as a result, all tracks sound pretty flat. Still, that’s somewhat expected in this class, so that we wouldn’t beat the Galaxy A04s for it.
